Watoto Children

World Tree's mission, paired with the Watoto vision, is to create an ecosystem in war-torn Uganda that is rich with trees. This joint mission is to provide 10,000 trees for 10,000 Watoto orphaned children to help replenish their depleted soil, so that they may grow and harvest food to feed the villages where they live. The Empress Splendor™ will also give the Watoto Children a chance to witness a tree that grows up faster than they do, while the blossoms beautify the place they get to call home.

Please, take a look at the counter above. Every donation helps us reach our goal of 10,000 trees! At $10.00 per tree, everyone can help.

Watoto currently operates two children's villages in Kampala –Bbira and Suubi – and a third in Gulu, Northern Uganda. Plans for a fourth village are underway.

Orphaned and vulnerable children, 2 to 12 years old, are rescued and placed in a Watoto Children's Village. The village consists of clusters of homes, where individual families made up of a house mother and eight children are housed and a homely environment is created where all their needs are met.

They receive education, care, nurture and are spiritually discipled. The intention is that these children grow up to be change agents for Uganda, their lives having a significant and lasting impact on their country and nation.

"…And each heart is whispering, “Home, Home at last.”…" -Thomas Hood

At Baby Watoto, children 0 to 2 years old are rescued from absolute destitution and, after being restored to normalcy, are either reconciled with surviving family members or graduate to one of our Watoto children's villages where they continue on their journey to become future leaders of Uganda. There are currently two babies’ homes in operation – one in downtown Kampala and the second at Suubi village. A third babies’ home is under construction in war affected Gulu, Northern Uganda and will be launched mid 2010.
